“The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
This quote is often attributed to Albert Einstein; yet, the reference to repetition and insanity dates back to the 19th century. When do your beliefs, principles, and values date back to? What parts of your identity, and sense of community, remain the same since the pandemic? What parts need to change in order to avoid insanity? How will you obtain different results?
The first step towards learning new ideas of sanity and wholeness can be achieved through Parker Palmer’s book A Hidden Wholeness.Palmer takes us on The Journey Toward An Undivided Life, Welcoming the Soul and Weaving Community in a Wounded World. One of the new concepts I discovered by reading A Hidden Wholeness is how to be alone together. In essence, we create a community of solitudes by creating a safe space for the Soul to exist while we’re involved in our Role of relating to others and dealing with complex systems..Concepts such as using metaphors, laughter, and silence can create a unified community. Soul and Role can achieve different results if we avoid the insanity of living in a divided community and instead, heal our wounded world.
